The survey work included but not limited to

During my six years with ABS I surveyed 22 GRP patrol craft for the Greek Coastguard.
And five Mega Yachts built in Aluminium, FRP, FRP/ Composite and GRP
I was also involved in the setting up and the implementation of a computer report system. This involved the creation of electronic forms that could be used in a number of formats.
1. To be able to be filled in on a computer and sent electronically.
2. To be able to be filled in on a computer and sent as hard copy by mail.
3. To be able to be partly filled in on a computer then filled in by hand and sent as hard copy by mail.
4. To be able to be printed blank then filled in by hand and sent as hard copy by mail
5. All of the above were to be completed without alteration to the look or format of the form.
6. The training of the personal in there use within the UK.
7. I also sat on the steering committee and the working group for the
Safety of Small Commercial Motor and Sailing Vessels Codes of Practice as representative for ABS.
November 1987 to August 1992:
Self Employed as Marine Consultant and Engineer.
During this time I acted as relief Chief Engineer on several vessels on a voyage basis and undertook some Survey work.
These vessels included
The sail training ships
The Lord Nelson and Astrid
Ferry St Julien.
Dredger Sand Wader
January 1980 to November 1987:
Engineering Manager and Training Officer, Lutheran Shipping, Madang, PNG.
The position included the following,
1. Management of a Marine repair workshop with approx. 40 full time staff.
The repair workshop was able to fully recondition all engines in the fleet including load testing before re-installation.
Manufacture and repair the winch systems as used on the ships.
Service and rebuild all the fuel injection equipment.
General Steel work repairs to the ships including Hull repairs.
Cargo Handling equipment servicing and repair.
The Workshop acted as agents for several makes of engines and other equipment and a store with a stock value in the region of K3,000,000 ( £2,000,000 at the time)
The setting up of a stock control system for the above store.
2. The responsibility for a fleet of twelve coastal vessels on liner service covering a coastline of approx. 3000 miles.
This included the Manning on a Day to day basis of the ships engineers.
The scheduling and specification for dry-docking of the companies ships.
The setting up and operation of a deck and engine room log book record system.
August 1977 to January 1980:
Marine Surveyor with The Marine Div. Dept of Transport, Papua New Guinea, Government
Duties included:The surveys of coastal craft
The inspection of foreign flag vessels when required. (Now called Port state inspection)
The day to day running of a workshop for the government fleet of small patrol craft.
August 1977 to November 1987
Acted as non-exclusive surveyor to the following Classification Societies.
LR, ABS, BV, DNV, KR, & NKK
